Fel-Pro 7013 Cylinder Head Gaskets

The pic above shows two styles of Fel-Pro 7013 Model A Ford cylinder head gaskets. These are copper clad gaskets and have metal reinforced grey Pro-Ramic composition filler.

The gasket on top is a current production R3 gasket, and the bottom one is an earlier version. Most of the earlier unmarked versions have a white asbestos type filler, though some unmarked ones have the metal reinforced grey composition filler also.

This is a top view showing the R3 directly on top of the R1. This shows the relative size of the combustion openings. The current R3 is made oversize for fitting larger overbore cylinders on the order of 0.120 inch oversize. The bore opening on the R3 is 4-1/16 inches.

The R1 on the bottom fits the standard bore up to 0.060 inch oversize. The bore opening on the R1 is 3-15/16 inches. This gasket also maximizes the amount of material available between the siamesed cylinder walls, which is a better sealing situation than the current R3 gasket.

The pic above shows the early R1 gasket placed on a cylinder block bored 0.040 inch oversize. This gasket fits nicely and provides substantial material for sealing between cylinders.

The pic above shows the later R3 gasket placed on a cylinder block bored 0.040 inch oversize.

This gasket fits, but exposes an increased gap around the edges of the combustion chamber, as well as diminished sealing material between cylinders themselves, and to the front and rear 'steam' holes.

This narrow gasket margin is not a desirable sealing condition, though it may be common practice right now due to gasket availability.
